Green B. Travis Lived
Useful And Inspiring Life
Green B. Travis, who died Friday at the age of 79, would be accurately described by a number of familiar phrases. He was "a gentleman of the Old School," of whom so few now survive. He was a "grand old man" in the sense that his personal character and activities, as well as his business career, commanded the respect of those who knew him, made of him an outstanding figure and character. And he was the "old fashioned" father of a big family, a father who reared his seven sons by age-old principles of honor and integrity and whose greatest pride was in his family, in the respect they commanded for the family name.

Throughout his long and useful life, active until he suffered a stroke in 1940, Mr. Travis exercised a sustained and constructive interest in civic and religious matters and organizations, his activities in these fields, in conjunction with hs business activities, developing him into one of South Mississippi's best known and most useful citizens. The simple statement that from the age of 21 to the day he became physically incapacitated, he served actively and conscientiously as a deacon in the Baptist church, illustrates the strength and constancy of his devotion of Christ and Christianity.

We extend sympathy to the seven sons and the daughter who survive him, who mourn him, and who must treasure the memory of his love, character and teachings as their greatest heritage.13 and was buried at Heidelberg City Cemetery, Row 28, Heidelberg, Jasper County, Mississippi.14
