Amos Travis1

     Amos Travis, son of William Mills Travis and Abigail Denmark, was born on 11 June 1763 at Beaufort County, North Carolina.2 Amos Travis was the son of William Mills Travis and Abigail Denmark. Amos Travis, according to another researcher, was born on 9 November 1758 at Bath, Beaufort County, North Carolina, However, I believe a better date is the later date in 1763.1

Mary Collins Landin says that Amos was a "captain in the Revolution, from Bertie County, NC," though no records to substantiate this have to date been found. She also records eight children listed in his will.1

Amos Travis married Frances Pierce circa 1775.

Amos Travis died on 29 September 1836 at Moundville, Greene County, Alabama, at age 73. and was buried at Travis Cemetery, Sawyerville, Hale County, Alabama. This burial is listed in, however, there is no photo of the headstone with which to verify the information.3
