     Elmer E. Bottenfield, son of Shadrach Mitchell Bottenfield and Sarah Elizabeth McCormic, was born on 15 October 1861 at Ohio.2 Elmer E. Bottenfield was the son of Shadrach Mitchell Bottenfield and Sarah Elizabeth McCormic.

Elmer E. Bottenfield appeared on the United States census of 1870 in the household of Shadrach Mitchell Bottenfield at Fairview, Labette County, Kansas.3

Elmer E. Bottenfield appeared on the United States census of 1880 in the household of Shadrach Mitchell Bottenfield at Labette County, Kansas.4

Elmer E. Bottenfield married Sarah Ann Bailey, daughter of Thomas Bailey and Jane Elam, on 20 May 1892 at Boulder County, Colorado.5,6

According to Gunnison County records, in October, 1905, Elmer Bottenfield borrowed money in order to purchase a piano. In 1907, Sadie Bottenfield extended the mortgage on the piano. Since Ella, their daughter, was an accomplished pianist, the piano was probably purchased for her. Might it be the same piano that is still in the Crested Butte James Arnott home?

In 1910, Elmer E. Bottenfield appeared on the United States Census, at Howeville Village, Gunnison County, Colorado.7

Elmer E. Bottenfield purchased a ranch on 12 June 1914 at Bottenfield Ranch, Gunnison County, Colorado. The legal description of the ranch Elmer and Sadie purchased is:

     E 1/2 SW 1/4, W 1/2 SE 1/4 Section 8, Township 14, S.R. 85W6" p.m.
     
The Ranch was on the East River and the latitude and longitude was: 385100N1065500W.

On Thursday, July 3, 1919, Gunnison Empire, we read: Mrs. Elmer Bottenfield, who was called to Salida last week to be with her husband who has been suffering with ether pneumonia, returned home Monday. She reports that Mr. Bottenfield is out of danger now, although he has been very low.

Elmer E. Bottenfield died on 10 October 1919 at Crested Butte, Gunnison County, Colorado, at age 57. The cause of death was throat cancer.2,8,9 Elmer was buried at Crested Butte Cemetery, Crested Butte, Gunnison County, Colorado.2

According to his obituary, Elmer went to Gunnison county in 1901. He was city marshal of Gunnison around 1904, then located his ranch on the East River in 1907.10
