Mabell Young married John Bounds Sr. between 1677 and 1685.1

John Bounds Sr. apparently had a great deal of trouble with Mabell. It seems she was argumentative and "insolent" in court, which netted her, and therefore him, fines. At one point John Sr. posted a note on the courthouse door warning that he would not honor any business deal or purchases she made. Later he finally "divorces" her and agrees to give her some personal belongings and an annual payment of 1000 pounds of tobacco, thereby assuring that she would not inherit 1/3 of his property.
