     William M. Welch, son of James Richard Welch and Mary Marzilla Valentine, was born on 1 November 1837 at Jones County, Mississippi.1,2 William M. Welch was the son of James Richard Welch and Mary Marzilla Valentine.1

William M. Welch appeared on the United States census of 1850 in the household of James Richard Welch at Jones County, Mississippi.3

According to researcher Clem W. Akins, Jr., William M. Welch "was the Tax Assessor and Surveyor for the Free State of Jones - Jones County, Mississippi broke away from the Confederacy under the leadership of Newt Knight."4

William M. Welch died on 24 September 1908 at Jones County, Mississippi, at age 70.2 and was buried at Union Line Cemetery, Soso, Jones County, Mississippi.2,4
