     James Welborn Sr., son of William Welborn Sr. and Ann Crabtree, was born on 18 August 1736 at Baltimore, Baltimore County, Maryland, James birth is recorded in the St. George Parish Record pg. 292 folder 129. 'August 18th 1736. Then was born James wilbourn son of William Wilbourn and Ann his wife.1' James Welborn Sr. was the son of William Welborn Sr. and Ann Crabtree.1

James Welborn Sr. married Isabella Mary Teague, daughter of Moses Teague and Elizabeth Loftin, in 1756 at Frederick County, Virginia.1

It is reported that James Welborn Sr. was a Revolutionary War Patriot. He served as a member of the Militia, N.C., S.C. and Virginia.1

James Welborn Sr. left a will on 15 February 1811 at Glasglow, Barren County, Kentucky, This Will reads as follows:

IN THE NAME OF GOD AMEN, the 15 day of February in the year of our Lord 1811, I James Wilborn of Barren County and State of Kentucky being weak in body but sound in mind and memory therefore calling to mind the mortality of my body knowing it is apointed for all men to die I dwo (s.c.) make and ordain this my last Will and Testament that is to say principally and first of all I give and recomend my Soul to God that gave it and my Body to the Earth to Be buried at the discretion of my friends not Douting at the Reserection to receive it again by the Mighty power of God and touching such wordly estate as God has Endowed me with I give and devise in the following maner first I order that all my lawful debts be paid out of my Estate with my funeral expense. ITEM: First of all I gie and bequeath unto my grandson James Swift a certain peace of land that I bought of my son Samuel Welborn containing seventy acres with the springs of water and convenenas acording to bargin allso I give the said Granson a young mare and sadel and Rifel gun one feather bed and furniture one iron pot one large puter dish two bassons four plates and my axx and matcock and my plow irons two pair of Chaines one Cow and calf. ITEM: I give and bequeath unto my well Beloved wife Esabel Welborn all and every part of my Estate and property that I have not already wild to be at her disposal and use during her natural life and at her desease what is left to be sold and every Child have an Equal part and I apoint and ordain two of my sons: Samuel and Joshua Welborn my whole and Sole Executors of this my last Will, and my son Joshua a gardean to take care of gran son with what I have left him til he is of age or (capible of takeing it to himself) and hereby I dwo Revoke all wills made by me heretofore and Ratifi and confirm this to be my last will and testament in Witness whereof I hereunto set my hand and Seal the day and year above written.

Barren County Towit August County Court 1811 - The foregoing writing purporting to be the last Will of James Welborn was on the day afsd produced in Court & Edward Barber & Gideon Welborn the two subscribing witnesses thereto boing sworn deposeth and saith that the said James Wilborn did in their presence deliver the said writing for his last Will and they believe he was of a deposing mind and memory & thereupon the said writing was ordered to be Recorded as the tru last will and Testament of the said James Welborn.

James Welborn Sr. died on 11 August 1811 at Barren County, Kentucky, at age 74.1,3 and was buried at Poplar Log Cemetery, Freedom, Barren County, Kentucky.3
