     Asa Mitchell, son of Shadrack Mitchell and Margaret Rinehart, was born on 6 October 1808 at Washington Township, Greene County, Pennsylvania.1,2,3 Asa Mitchell was the son of Shadrack Mitchell and Margaret Rinehart.1

Asa Mitchell married Rachel Johns, daughter of Jacob Johns and Elizabeth Smith, on 25 January 1835.1

In 1850, Asa Mitchell appeared on the United States Census, at Washington Township, Greene County, Pennsylvania.4 He was listed in the will of Shadrack Mitchell in 1854; I, Shadrick Mitchell, of Washington Township, Greene County, Penna. Farmer, being of sound mind and good memory memory hereby make this my last will and testament. 1. I hereby divise to my beloved wife Margaret, during her life or as long as she remains my widow all my Real and personal Estate. 2. After the decease of my wife then it is my Will, and I hereby devise my son Isaac Mitchell and his heirs all the Real Estate I now own embracing the Homestead Farm owned and occuped by me. This devise to my son is when the express condition of his paying to the persons hereinafter to be named, the sum of Fifteen Hundred Dollars as follows: to wit: to my three Grand Doughers Elizabeth Mary Anne and Mariah Sellers Thirty dollars and thirty three and a 3 cts each, to be paid one year after the death of my wife, or in case I should outlive her, in one year after my decease to my four Daughters Elizabeth, Delila, Hannah and Maria, Two Hundred Dollars each to be paid in fifty Dollar payments to each commencing one year after the Dicease of my wife, or in case I should outlive her, in one year after my decease to my son Jesse Mitchell, Four Hundred dollars to be paid in anuel payments of One hundred Dollars each commencing as above one year after my wife decease or my own, should I survive hir; To my son Thomas Mitchell Two Hundred Dollars to be paid one Hundred Dollars per year commencing as as above, My son John and Asa Mitchell have justley receive thar share of my Estate. It is my will that my Personal property above mentioned as bequeathed to my wife shall be hirs absolutly to dispose of as she may think proper. I hereby appoint my son Isaac Mitchell, Executor of this my last Will and Testament.
     IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereto set my hand and seal this 17th, day of August 1854.5

In 1860, Asa Mitchell appeared on the United States Census, at Washington Township, Greene County, Pennsylvania.6

In 1880, Asa Mitchell appeared on the United States Census, at Washington Township, Greene County, Pennsylvania.7

In Samuel P. Bates book "History of Greene County, Pennsylvania", written in 1888, it states "Mr. Mitchell was raised on a farm and has been engaged in farming all his life. He owns 227 acres of land where he now lives with his family and he is one of the most substantial and highly respected citizens of Washington Township."2

Asa Mitchell died on 28 September 1889 at Greene County, Pennsylvania, at age 80.8 and was buried at Bethlehem Baptist Cemetery, Ruff Creek, Greene County, Pennsylvania.9

Asa Mitchell left a will on 1 October 1889 at Waynesburg, Greene County, Pennsylvania, I Asa Mitchell of Washington Township Greene County Pa. do make and publish this as and for my last Will and Testament hereby revoking and making void all other or former wills by me at any time made.
Item: I will and direct that all my just debts and funeral expenses be fully paid by my Executor hereinafter named.
Item: I will and direct that my property both real and personal shall be divided equally among my children - share and share alike and the children of those deceased to take their parent's share, that is to say the children of my deceased son Shadrack to have the share which he would have taken if he had lived untill after my decease. My son Jacob is to have one equal share out of my estate, my son John is to have one equal share out of my estate, my daughter Maria is to have one equal share out of my estate and in addition thereto is to have five hundred dollars out of my estate; my daughter Catharine Shirk is to have one equal share out of my estate. I give to my beloved wife Rachel the one third of my property which she is entitled to under the intestate laws and in addition thereto to have out of my estate four hundred dollars. Item: I direct my Executor hereinafter named to sell my property real and personal and divide the proeccds thereof to and among the persons above mentioned and in the way and manner above mentioned.
Item: If any of my children or persons to whom I have give share in this my will shall go to law to break or set aside these provision of this will then that is to disavow and to make void and of no effect the desire to them of him or her.
Item: I hereby make constitute and appoint ?(unreadable) Meek of Washington Township Greene County Pa. as my Executor of this my last will and testament. Witness my hand and seal this twenty-fourth day of September A.D. 1889. Asa Mitchell (his mark.)10
