John Hunter, was born circa 1816 at Carnock, Fife, Scotland.

John Hunter married Mary Campbell circa 1837 at Scotland.2

In 1841, John Hunter appeared on the Scotland Census, at Greengairs, New Monkland, Lanarkshire, Scotland.3

In 1851, John Hunter appeared on the Scotland Census, at Saline, Dunfermline, Fife, Scotland, John and William are both working as Ironstone Miners on this census.4

In 1861, John Hunter appeared on the Scotland Census, at Saline, Fife, Scotland, John is still working as an iron stone miner in 1861.5

In 1871, John Hunter appeared on the Scotland Census, at Saline, Fife, John Hunter is listed as a miner of coal and ironstone. In the this census, also, their daughter Charlotte is listed as living with her parents and her two children. The last name for Charlotte and the two children is Hunter. At this time I do not know what her circumstances may have been. The census states that she was an agricultural labouror. Perhaps she was widowed. Perhaps she never married.6
