     John Elam, son of Joseph Elam and Mary Thornton, was born circa 14 October 1838 at Birstall, Yorkshire, England.1,3 John Elam was the son of Joseph Elam and Mary Thornton.1,2

John Elam appeared on the United States census of 1850 in the household of Joseph Elam at Dodgeville, Iowa County, Wisconsin.4

On 1 August 1860, John Elam appeared on the United States Census, at Wyoming, Iowa County, Wisconsin, The name may have been Joshua rather than John.5

There is a John Elam buried in the East Side Cemetery, Dodgeville, Iowa County, Wisconsin. Death date is 1 June 1868 at age 76. It is unknown what the relationship to this John Elam, born around 1838, but it is of interest because this is where this Elam family lived in 1850.6
